# Can non-US companies license data to AI labs?

> Wondering if non-US companies can sell data to AI labs? They can license it. Mercor and Troveo state no country limit. The GDPR transfer rule still applies.

## The short answer

Maybe. Mercor and Troveo state no geographic limit, and Handshake AI's form lists Europe. micro1's data partnership page puts the US first, then the UK and Canada, and considers others. EU companies face GDPR transfer rules. Ask each program directly whether they consider your country. All statements are self-reported.

No buyer publishes a separate process or price for companies outside the US. What you get is a set of stated preferences.

## What does micro1 say about place?

[micro1](/buyers/micro1)'s [data partnerships page](https://micro1.ai/data-partnerships) puts companies with 30 or more employees in the US first, names the UK and Canada next, and says companies from other regions may still be considered.

It also asks that documentation and workflows be in English and that your representatives can talk to its team in English.

Its CFO said in an undated recorded forum talk that micro1 prefers US and Canadian companies and is open to others (recording date not stated).

In a micro1 video, a referral partner pitched the program to US business owners. The partner named no other country (self-reported, about 15:08 and 21:00). The CFO's US and Canada preference is the wider statement.

The [Canada page](/answers/micro1-data-partnership-canada) compares micro1's three sources on place, and the [English page](/answers/micro1-english-data-requirement) covers language.

## What do other buyers say?

[Mercor's data page](https://www.mercor.com/data/) lists eight sectors and mentions no country limit. [Troveo's business data page](https://www.troveo.ai/business-data) mentions none either. [Handshake AI's interest form](https://joinhandshake.com/ai/data-partnerships/) lists USA, Canada, Europe and Other as choices, and its page says a scoping call covers data parameters, de-identification, terms and timeline.

A page that mentions no limit has made no promise either. The [buyer comparison](/guides/how-to-choose-an-ai-data-broker) lists what to ask.

## Does EU law change the answer?

[Article 44 of the GDPR](https://gdpr-info.eu/art-44-gdpr/) says a transfer of personal data to a third country takes place only if the conditions in that chapter are complied with.

An archive full of employee or customer messages usually holds personal data. The [EU employee data page](/answers/can-i-sell-eu-employee-data-to-ai) covers the other GDPR checks, and the [rights check](/rights-check) asks whether GDPR or UK GDPR data subjects are in the records.

## What should a non-US company ask first?

- Does the buyer consider companies in my country, and on what terms?
- Where is my data stored and who can see it?
- Does the price or the process change for me?
