## The short answer

Calculators take headcount and years and return a range. The ranges run wide: for 100 staff and 10 years, Handshake AI shows $383,083 to $896,969. Neither inspects your systems or checks rights. Use one to start a conversation, nothing more.

Calculators are how most buyers collect a lead. Here's what each one asks, what it returns and where it tops out.

## What do company data calculators ask for?

Almost the same three things. Headcount, years of history, and in some cases country or region.

[Troveo](/buyers/troveo)'s slider takes employees (20, 100, 250, 500 or 1,000+) and years of operation (under 3, 3 to 7, 8 to 15, 15+), and its text says value also scales with your systems. It prints a range on a $0 to $1M scale and defaults to $800K ([Troveo](https://www.troveo.ai/business-data)).

[Handshake AI](/buyers/handshake-ai) takes headcount, years in operation and country ([Handshake AI](https://joinhandshake.com/ai/data-partnerships/)).

## What numbers come out?

| Calculator | Example input | Output shown |
|---|---|---|
| Handshake AI | 100 staff, 10 years | $383,083 to $896,969 |
| Troveo | Slider default | $800K, on a $0 to $1M scale |

All figures are the buyers' own and unverified, and neither is a signed offer.

## Where do the ranges stop?

Troveo's slider prints on a $0 to $1M scale and its top employee choice is 1,000+, so the picture stops at $1M whatever you enter. If any buyer's headline runs higher than its own calculator can print, that gap is the first thing I'd ask about.

A calculator works from a few inputs. It cannot see your systems or confirm which records can be licensed, so a buyer's real proposal can land outside the range.

## Do buyers value data with a formula?

Some do. Ryan Lock of [Polyshares](/buyers/polyshares) wrote that some buyers use headcount and size alone, and that Polyshares values on quality ([X article](https://x.com/RyanLockAI/status/2107864069105389717)). That is a buyer's account, and it fits the caution above.

## What does the calculator leave out?

Rights. Neither calculator asks whether your contracts, NDAs or employee rules allow licensing, and that question decides whether any figure applies. The [rights check](/rights-check) asks it first.

Calculators like these usually sit in front of a lead form that asks for your name, email and company, because the range is how they collect your details.

Figure: range, Handshake AI estimate, 100 staff, 10 years, $383.1K to $897K. One calculator, one company, a top figure more than twice the bottom. Source: Handshake AI data partnerships estimator, self-reported.
