# micro1 Slack data: what a workflow trail looks like

## The short answer

micro1 Slack data is part of the workflow trail micro1's CFO says labs want. Your request in Slack and the report in Google Sheets show how work moves through your company. Slack's export rules vary by plan, and your rights depend on your contracts with employees.

Slack matters to a lab because work starts there. The request, the question and the sign-off live in channels and direct messages.

## What does a Slack trail look like to a lab?

David Revland, who works on human data at [micro1](/buyers/micro1), gave one example in an undated recorded forum talk on the [micro1 data partnership](/guides/micro1-data-partnership): a Slack message asking for a finance report and the report built in Google Sheets (self-reported, recording, date not stated).

[Fortune](https://fortune.com/2026/09/14/micro1-tries-to-beat-googles-bid-to-buy-bankrupt-spirit-airlines-data-for-12-5-million-highlighting-value-of-data-to-ai-companies/) describes the prize in the Spirit Airlines sale the same way. ## Is Slack data in demand elsewhere?

[Gizmodo](https://gizmodo.com/failed-companies-are-selling-old-slack-chats-and-email-archives-to-train-ai-2000747916) reported that failed startups were selling old Slack chats and email archives to train AI. ## What can you export from Slack?

[Slack's help page](https://slack.com/help/articles/204897248-Guide-to-Slack-import-and-export-tools) says Free and Pro workspaces can export public channels. Business+ workspaces can apply for exports that include all channels and direct messages, and Enterprise plans offer custom exports. Workspace owners can request them, as can members with the Export Admin role. On the Free plan, exports include file links only from the last 90 days.

## What stands between you and a deal?

Messages belong to several parties. Employees wrote direct messages, shared channels contain outside companies' words, and Slack's API terms limit apps, though they say nothing about your own export.
