# License Asana data to AI: export, terms and programs

> Googling how to sell Asana data to AI? Owners license it. Troveo names Asana, and Asana's terms bar training generative AI on customer data.

## The short answer

You export Asana projects and tasks as a trail of who did what and when, and Troveo names Asana among its tools. But Asana's terms bar training generative AI models on your data. Rights in task content stay separate from export terms.

A task history shows an assignee, a due date and a series of notes. That is the shape of a workflow, and workflows are what several buyers say they want.

## Which companies name Asana?

[Troveo](https://www.troveo.ai/business-data) lists Asana under work and knowledge.

[micro1's data partnerships page](https://www.micro1.ai/data-partnerships) lists project histories. In an undated recorded forum talk, [micro1](/buyers/micro1) said the manifest form asks about project management tools (date not stated, self-reported).

Mercor's data page does not name Asana. See [what labs want](/answers/what-data-do-ai-labs-want-from-companies) for how each firm describes it.

## How does an Asana export work?

[Asana's own CSV article](https://asana.com/inside-asana/export-to-csv) says to open Project Actions and choose Export, then CSV. The file carries task ID, created, completed and modified dates, name, assignee, due date, tags, notes, project name and the parent task for subtasks.

A third-party guide, which says it checked Asana's documentation, reports that project exports come as CSV or JSON on any plan. It says a whole-organization export is JSON only and open to Enterprise+ super admins. Asana's help center did not render when I fetched it, so confirm the steps there.

## What do Asana's terms say?

The [Asana Product-Specific Terms](https://asana.com/terms/asana-product-specific-terms) include an "Improving Asana AI" section. It says Asana does not use or permit third-party AI partners to use customer data to train generative AI models used to provide Asana AI.

That covers Asana's use. It says nothing about what you may do with an export.

## What sits inside tasks?

Task notes name colleagues, clients and vendors, and comments can quote customers. That is my reading of how teams use Asana. Rights follow your [customer contracts](/answers/do-customer-contracts-allow-selling-data) and any [NDAs](/answers/does-my-nda-let-me-sell-data-to-ai). The [rights check](/rights-check) lists the questions for counsel.

Figure: comparison of Asana export scopes, by who can run them: Project CSV (Any plan), Project JSON (Any plan), Organization JSON (emphasized: Covers the whole organization, Enterprise+ admins). Only the organization export covers everything, and it is JSON for Enterprise+ super admins.
