## The short answer

Polyshares lists a $300,000 perpetual exclusive license to an unnamed general contractor's operational record, undated and self-reported. Before you license yours, sort records by who holds the rights. OSHA rule 1904.29 keeps names off privacy cases in injury logs. Copyright gives drawings to their author first.

This page reports what the texts and buyer pages say. It is not legal advice.

## Does any buyer list construction?

Yes. [Polyshares](/buyers/polyshares)' [case studies page](https://polyshares.com/track-record) lists a general contractor under construction at $300,000. It describes the deal as a perpetual exclusive license to the operational record, anonymized before delivery. The same page lists a roofing company at $450,000 under home services, covered on the [home service page](/answers/sell-home-service-company-data-to-ai).

Company names stay confidential and the page carries no dates. Every figure is Polyshares' own, and no outside report confirms it. Both rows sit in the [deals tracker](/deals).

Polyshares' [homepage](https://polyshares.com/) names construction among the sectors that qualify, and its [intake](https://polyshares.com/intake) lists Procore and Buildertrend among field operations tools. [Mercor's data page](https://www.mercor.com/data/) and [micro1's page](https://www.micro1.ai/data-partnerships) do not name construction. The [industry page](/answers/does-industry-matter-for-selling-company-data) puts the lists side by side.

## Which field records should a contractor list?

Start with the project record: RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily logs and schedules, and the system each one sits in. The case studies don't say which records the general contractor's license covered, so ask any buyer what its scope takes in.

Polyshares' homepage says its license does not cover "what you hold on behalf of your own clients." For a contractor, that question reaches the project owner's documents and the design team's drawings.

## What do injury logs show?

Under [29 CFR 1904.29](https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/29/1904.29)(b)(6) to (9), an employer may not enter the employee's name on the OSHA 300 Log for a privacy concern case. It enters "privacy case" in its place and keeps a separate confidential list that matches case numbers to names.

The listed cases cover injuries to intimate body parts or the reproductive system, sexual assault, mental illness, HIV, hepatitis or tuberculosis, and needlestick or sharps injuries contaminated with another person's blood. They also cover other illnesses when the employee asks to be left off the log.

A safety archive can hold that confidential list, the incident narratives and the photos as well.

## Who owns drawings and specifications?

Copyright vests initially in the author ([17 U.S.C. 201](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/201)). In a work made for hire, the employer or the person the work was prepared for is treated as the author. A transfer of ownership is not valid unless it is in writing and signed by the owner ([17 U.S.C. 204(a)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/204)).

AIA's standard owner-architect form treats the architect as owner of the drawings and gives the project owner a license for the project, as the [architecture page](/answers/sell-architecture-firm-data-to-ai) explains. Drawings a contractor received from the design team came under those agreements, so list them apart from the records your own staff wrote.

## What can a contractor gather first?

List the projects, the clients and public bodies on them, the agreements that cover project files and the systems that hold field communication. The [rights check](/rights-check) asks the contract and personal-data questions and lists what to settle with counsel. The [engineering page](/answers/sell-engineering-firm-data-to-ai) covers the design side.
