License Confluence data to AI: Atlassian's terms

The short answer
Export your Confluence spaces as a record of how work happens. Mercor names Confluence among tools it connects to. Atlassian's Customer Agreement says you own the data. Data contribution settings vary by plan: off by default on Premium and Enterprise, on by default for Free and Standard.
Two Atlassian texts matter here. One says who owns the pages. The other says what Atlassian may do with them.
Who names Confluence?
Mercor's page lists Confluence among nine named tools and says buyers can choose from "100+ supported tools". Troveo's page does not name Confluence. micro1 lists knowledge bases, internal documentation and project histories. See licensing a company knowledge base to AI.
I found no price for Confluence content alone.
What does Atlassian say about ownership?
The Atlassian Customer Agreement says the customer owns all intellectual property and other rights in Customer Data. The agreement contains no direct sentence about AI training. It sends AI features to separate AI Terms, which I did not read.
What is Atlassian's data contribution setting?
Atlassian's support page says it will use data according to the data contribution settings from 17 Aug 2026. It covers metadata and in-app data, and in-app data includes Confluence page content.
Per that page: metadata is always contributed on Free, Standard and Premium, and Enterprise can change it. In-app data is on by default for Free and Standard and off by default for Premium and Enterprise, and any plan can adjust it. Settings can include or exclude specific apps and spaces.
The Register reported the same split, plus metadata retention of up to seven years and removal of opted-out data within 30 days.
How do you export a Confluence Cloud space?
A Space admin opens Space settings, then General, then Export space, and picks PDF, CSV, HTML or XML. Only content visible to the exporter is included. PDF exports leave out blog posts and comments, HTML leaves out blog posts, and Team Calendars never export.
What should you check first?
Wiki pages hold staff words, customer names and pasted contract terms. The rights check asks whose records these are, and licensing Jira data to AI covers the ticket side of the same vendor.
