How long does a data transfer take?

The short answer

A data transfer takes about one to two weeks. micro1's CFO estimated, in an undated talk, about 10 hours of IT work over that time, with micro1's engineers helping. A micro1 referral partner said no tech department is needed, so the accounts differ. Other programs publish no transfer time.

A transfer is the step where your records move from your tools to the program, buyer or marketplace you work with. How long it takes depends on the tools you run and how much data each holds.

What did micro1 say about transfer time?

In an undated, recorded Company Data Partnerships forum talk, micro1's CFO said the transfer takes about 10 hours of work over a week or two from one or two IT people at the company.

micro1's forward-deployed engineering team helps your IT people run it (self-reported, recording, date not stated).

Ten hours is the company's effort. The elapsed time of one to two weeks is mostly waiting for exports and access, and the talk gave no breakdown.

Can a company with no IT team do this?

micro1 gave two descriptions, side by side.

Both are micro1 speakers describing the program. The partner earns from referrals and the video is promotional. Whether a company with no IT person can finish is unconfirmed, so ask micro1 in writing who must do what on your side and who holds the admin access.

What comes before and after the transfer?

The transfer is step six of the seven steps David Revland, who works on human data at micro1, described in the undated talk for a corpus deal. A referral or intro, a first call, a data manifest form, a payment proposal and contract language come first.

Revland said micro1 verifies the delivered data before it pays. The whole path is in the micro1 data partnership guide.

Do other buyers publish a transfer time?

Not for company data. Mercor's data page says payment is a wire on delivery of the anonymized dataset, typically within two to four weeks of agreement. That is a payment window, and it says nothing about how long the owner's side takes.

Handshake AI's company referral page says its team reaches out to a referred company within one to two days and then holds a scoping call. SimpleClosure and Troveo publish no transfer time I could find.

What speeds your side up?

Know your sizes before the first call. micro1's David Revland said in an undated talk that the manifest form asks for rough sizes per tool and that micro1 supplies instructions for finding them, for example in Google Drive.

A list of the tools you use and who administers each one removes most of the waiting.

The rights check covers the rights questions that come before the transfer, and how to license company data to AI companies shows where the transfer sits in a full deal.
