Is Handshake AI legit? A review of its company data program

The short answer
Handshake AI's company data program is run by Handshake, a real company whose domain dates to 2014. It publishes its terms: $100K to $4M+ per partnership, 20+ full-time staff and 3+ years. It warns re-identification risk never reaches zero. Press reported contractor pay disputes, so get payment terms in writing.
This review covers the Handshake AI company data program, which licenses business records to AI labs. Handshake's AI fellowship for individual experts is a separate program with its own record.
I checked the data program the way I would before sending it a single export.
Is Handshake AI legit for a company sharing its data?
Yes, on the public record. Handshake is a career network whose domain was registered in 2014, and its AI arm publishes a company data partnerships page with a price range, a calculator and a process.
No partnership contract is public, so the contract you are offered is the one to read.
Is Handshake AI a scam?
Nothing in the record points to a scam on the company data side. Handshake AI publishes who it is, what it says it pays and how it handles data. The marks against it are contractor pay disputes on the worker side, reported by Business Insider in March 2026.
What does the evidence show?
| Item | What the sources show | Source |

What is the current status of Handshake AI's data program?
On 14 Oct 2026 the data partnerships page was live and stated $100K to $4M+ "depending on the data shared." Its calculator showed $383,083 to $896,969 for a 100-person, 10-year US company, labelled "an indicative estimate only and is not an offer."
One Handshake AI page states $250M paid out to partners. The fellowship page now states $500M+, where earlier reads showed $100M. A growing total is no forecast for one company, so treat both as marketing figures.
Business Insider's report is dated 4 Mar 2026, and the court ruling it describes came in the previous October. Neither concerns a company data deal.
How does Handshake AI's data program work for a company?
You submit an intake form about your company and the tools you use. A team member follows up, and if there is a fit, a scoping call covers data parameters, de-identification, terms and timeline.
Handshake says it removes identifying details, cleans and formats the records, and delivers them to frontier AI labs under contractual confidentiality. Its page adds that partner companies are never identified. The full read is in Handshake AI data partnerships.
Who sees a company's data at Handshake AI?
Handshake AI says access is limited to authorized teams, and the prepared dataset goes to frontier AI labs under contractual confidentiality. It says partner companies are never identified, and the data is used only for training and evaluation, never published.
It also says it documents its de-identification method for each dataset. Ask for that record for yours, because the same page warns a third party may still re-identify people by combining sources.
How does Handshake AI set the price of a data partnership?
Its calculator takes three inputs: headcount, years in operation and country, with the USA, Canada, Europe and other as the choices. The page says the final figure turns on your data sources, volume and quality, its due diligence and your acceptance of its licensing terms.
So the calculator gives a starting range. The offer comes after the scoping call. Every stated floor beside Handshake AI's is in do you qualify for an AI data program.
What should a company ask Handshake AI before signing?
- When and how you are paid. The page says payments follow delivery milestones, typically 30 to 60 days after dataset acceptance. The contractor disputes are about payment, so put the date, the method and a dispute process in the contract.
- Who carries privacy risk. Its page says partners stay responsible for making the transfer legal.
- What the calculator left out. It says pay depends on data sources, volume, quality and due diligence.
