By Information, not legal adviceHow we are paid

Type
Marketplace. Lists or licenses data to buyers and shares the revenue.
Legal entity
Novoscribe, Inc., New York (copyright line on the site)
Data it wants

Does not buy. Publishers set the terms and usage-based prices for AI access. Its products include a bot and agent paywall and licensed retrieval access to content.

Who it takes

Aimed at publishers. The page says the core platform is free for publishers.

Not stated.

How it earns

No commission or fee percentage is published. Its Publisher Platform Agreement says publishers pay for optional extra services at prices set in their account portal.

Process
  1. A publisher connects its site and sees which bots and agents visit.
  2. The publisher defines what AI systems may access and at what price.
  3. AI companies pay under those terms. (Its page's description of its products.)
Payout claims
  • No payout figures, minimums or payment schedules published.
  • Names Reuters, Bloomberg, CNN, Forbes, AP News and TIME among publishers on the platform, and says TIME used TollBit traffic data to negotiate licensing deals with OpenAI and Perplexity.
Security claims
  • No security claims or certifications stated on the page we read.
De-identification and privacy

Not applicable in the way it is for company records. It handles publisher content access and traffic analytics, and names no method for personal data.

Terms for companies
  • License or ownership. Its Publisher Platform Agreement says each content license is an agreement between the publisher and the AI company, and TollBit is not a party to it.

Publishers set their own fees and keep their rights to their content.

  • Your warranties. The publisher warrants it holds the rights TollBit needs to use the content on the platform, and that TollBit owes no fees or royalties for that use.
  • Your indemnity and audit. The publisher indemnifies TollBit for breach of the agreement or the law, any dispute with an AI company, and infringement of third-party rights.
  • Liability cap. TollBit's total liability is capped at the greater of $100 or the fees the publisher paid TollBit in the 12 months before the claim.
  • Governing law. New York law and New York courts, with binding JAMS arbitration and a 30-day opt-out.
