How to check Slack workspace size

The short answer
Slack analytics give message and file counts, not gigabytes. The dashboard shows messages sent and files uploaded across channels and DMs. JSON exports hold file links, not the files, so an export measures message text only. For a buyer's form, give analytics counts plus what an export shows.
Slack publishes activity counts. I found no page that publishes a total size.
What does the analytics dashboard show?
Slack's help article on the Overview tab lists membership counts, active and posting people by day, week and month, messages sent by members, files uploaded, and two percentage splits, where people read and where messages are sent, across public channels, private channels and direct messages.
Any member can see a high-level Overview by default. Detailed Channels and Members views go to Workspace Owners, Admins and members with permission. Pro and Business+ add more tabs, and Enterprise has organization-level dashboards.
Does Slack show storage used?
Neither the dashboard article nor the "View your workspace analytics" article mentions storage used or total size. Slack's pricing page and its Free plan help article did not give file storage figures per plan either. I did not find another Slack page that does, so we state no figure.
What does an export measure?
An export is a second way to size the message side. Each conversation gets a folder of date-stamped JSON files, so the size of the export folder reflects message text. Using it as a size is our method, not one Slack publishes.
It leaves files out, because JSON exports carry links to files. It also covers only what your plan lets you export. Free and Pro cover public channels, and Business+ adds private channels and direct messages on approval. See how to export Slack data.
What does the Free plan hide?
Slack says Free workspaces can view and search the last 90 days of messages and files, and that older content is hidden. Its help article adds that content past one year is permanently deleted. An export from a Free workspace cannot show more than Slack still holds.
What size details does micro1 ask for?
micro1's David Revland, who works on human data, said in an undated recorded forum talk that its data manifest form asks for a rough size per tool and that it supplies instructions for finding them (self-reported, recording undated).
I haven't seen those instructions. See what a data manifest form is and micro1 and Slack data.
Run the rights check next, since size does not say what you may license. Talk to a privacy or commercial lawyer in your state before you sign.
