License contracts to AI: whose terms are inside

The short answer

Before you license contracts to AI, know that each signed agreement holds a counterparty's confidential terms. Troveo and micro1's data partnership page list contracts. A standard NDA limits use to a stated purpose. Common Paper's 2026 benchmark found 14% of cloud agreements bar AI training on customer data.

Each signed agreement holds two parties' words, and only one of them is yours.

Who lists contracts?

Troveo's page names contracts as a data type beside ledgers and invoices. micro1 lists contract workflows and governance documentation. These are the companies' own descriptions, and none gives a price for contracts alone.

What does a standard NDA say?

Common Paper's Standard Mutual NDA, version 1.0, is a template and not your agreement. It says the receiving party may use confidential information solely for the stated purpose, and may share it only with people who need to know and are bound by equivalent duties.

On request, the recipient must stop using the information and destroy or return it, with an exception for standard backups. Obligations survive for a stated term, and the default is one year from the effective date.

What does the trade-secret statute add?

The Defend Trade Secrets Act, 18 U.S.C. 1839(5)(B)(ii)(II), reaches disclosure or use by someone who knew or had reason to know the information was acquired under a duty to limit its use. Does my NDA let me license data to AI covers the checklist.

How common are AI-training bans?

Common Paper's 2026 SaaS contract benchmark of 16,140 signed agreements found 14% of cloud service agreements prohibit AI training on customer data. That figure covers vendor agreements, and it says nothing about your customers' contracts.

What about privileged documents?

Contracts drafted or annotated by counsel can carry privilege. See whether licensing emails waives attorney-client privilege and what customer contracts allow.

List which contracts have confidentiality, data-use or AI clauses. The rights check asks what your customer contracts allow, and the risk map lists the limits. Talk to a privacy or commercial lawyer in your state before you sign.
