License internal documents to AI: what to check first

The short answer
To license internal documents to AI, sort them by who owns them first. micro1's partnership page lists SOPs and knowledge bases. Troveo says documents alone are valued less without outcomes. Licensed material, open source, vendor code and third-party copyrights can block a deal. Sharing legal documents may also waive privilege.
Documents and sheets are the deliverable end of the chain micro1 describes for its data partnerships. They're also where other people's work hides.
Which internal documents do the companies name?
micro1's page lists SOPs, internal documentation, knowledge bases, project histories and QA processes. Mercor's data page lists Notion, Confluence and Drive content. Troveo's guide names SOPs, runbooks, proposals, specs, postmortems and meeting notes as worth licensing, with people's names, client details and credentials masked.
Why do documents complete the chain?
David Revland, who works on human data at micro1, described a Slack message that asks for a finance report and the report in Google Sheets.
The report is the deliverable, and the request gives it context. I cover the wider picture in what labs want from companies.
What can block licensing documents?
Frankfurt Kurnit's list has four items. Other companies' confidential information, often under NDAs. Licensed data, open source and vendor code. Third-party copyrighted material in attachments and shared files. Data generated by vendor tools.
It adds that licensing may waive privilege over legal communications and weaken trade secret protection for pricing logic and strategy documents.
Our pages on NDAs, privilege and shared Slack channels cover each one. Talk to a commercial lawyer in your state before you sign.
Do documents have value on their own?
Troveo says a folder of documents sits at the lower end of what company data pays. A proposal doesn't say whether the deal closed, and that gap costs you. Value climbs when records from the CRM, tickets and email come with it. That's a marketplace's view, and it carries no price.
What is the next step?
Sort folders into yours, a client's and a partner's. The data readiness checklist lists the questions, and the rights check lists what to settle with counsel. For Drive specifically, see licensing Google Drive data.
