License Intercom conversations to AI: what to check

The short answer

To license Intercom conversations to AI, you need the Conversations API or Amazon S3 export because the CSV export holds only metadata, not messages. Conversations carry customer names, emails and words, so privacy law and your customer contracts limit the deal. I found no published price for Intercom data.

A support thread holds a problem, the replies and how it ended. Troveo's guide calls the outcome, resolved or escalated, the useful signal. I'd add that every one of them also holds a customer's own words.

Which companies name Intercom?

Troveo names Intercom alongside Salesforce, HubSpot and Zendesk under CRM, sales and support. micro1's data partnerships page puts customer support among its six areas. All of that is self-reported.

For what buyers say about the data type itself, see our pages on support tickets and customer service transcripts.

What does an Intercom export include?

Less than you'd hope. Intercom's help article says the CSV export holds reporting metadata. That means conversation IDs, timestamps, attributes and metrics. Conversation and message content is not included. For the messages you need the Conversations API or an Amazon S3 JSON export.

A browser download takes up to 10,000 rows. Larger exports arrive by email. The API allows a maximum 90-day timeframe per request. Data is generally available for up to two years. Exporting needs the "Can access Chart drill-in" and "Can export CSV" permissions.

What does Intercom do with conversation data?

Intercom's AI training page says it uses anonymized data from Fin conversation logs to train custom models. It says it removes direct and indirect identifiers first. A workspace opts out under Settings, Workspace, Security, AI model training and fine-tuning. Intercom says it processes requests within 30 days.

Some accounts are opted out by default:

  • Those with a signed business associate agreement.
  • EU or AU regional workspaces.
  • Trial accounts.
  • Contracts negotiated before September 2025.

That covers Intercom's own use of the data. It doesn't tell you whether you may license it.

Whose data is inside a conversation?

Your end customers'. Names, emails and message text all sit in the threads. California treats a transfer for money as a sale of personal information. The CCPA page explains the test. GDPR applies to people in the EU. Your customer contracts may add limits of their own.
