License meeting transcripts to AI: what we could verify

The short answer

Export meeting transcripts as records of decisions to license them to AI. No buyer we read names transcripts. Troveo lists Zoom under chat. On Microsoft Teams, the export API lists transcript links, about 300 KB each. Participant consent and the Otter.ai ruling are the legal questions.

Microsoft's averages put a transcript at about 300 KB and a recording at about 350 MB for a 30 to 60 minute meeting. A transcript also names every speaker, which matters more than the file size.

Does any buyer name transcripts?

Not in the pages I read. Troveo lists Zoom under chat and messaging. That's as close as any source gets, and it's a marketplace's self-description. Our page on sales call recordings covers that side.

Where does Teams keep a transcript?

Microsoft says a Teams meeting recording is saved to the organizer's OneDrive for private meetings, or to SharePoint for channel meetings. Channel recordings and transcripts go to a Recordings folder in the channel's SharePoint site. Purview and normal file permissions apply to the recording files.

How does the export API return one?

Microsoft's Teams Export APIs return transcript links for scheduled online meetings where a named user is the organizer. The API supports private scheduled meetings only. Transcripts come as VTT by default, or DOCX with an Accept header.

An app needs the OnlineMeetingTranscript.Read.All application permission, which only an administrator can approve (Microsoft Learn).

ExplicitRecordingConsent can require participants to agree before a meeting is recorded or transcribed. Microsoft also says that when organizers turn off Copilot in Teams meetings, recording and transcription turn off too.

Participants include customers, partners and staff, so what counts as PII applies to speaker names. The Otter.ai order is summarized on can I license call recordings to AI. Licensing Teams data to AI covers chats.
