What is referential integrity in data?
Referential integrity is the rule that every link between records points at a real record. In AI data deals, Spirit Airlines kept links while de-identifying, and the union said links raise re-identification risk.
What is a forward deployed engineer?
A forward deployed engineer (FDE) works directly with a customer to understand problems and build solutions using that customer's data. Palantir says the role owns end-to-end execution.
What is data provenance?
Data provenance is the record of where data came from, how it was made and who handled it. The W3C defines it as information about the entities, activities and people involved.
What is human data?
Human data is data people produce on request to train and test AI models, like expert answers, grading and rankings. AI labs buy it from vendors that recruit contractors.
What is workflow data?
Workflow data is the record of how work moved across tools, from request to deliverable. micro1's CFO used a marketing budget request as the example, and David Revland of micro1 used a Slack request with the report in Google Sheets.

Expertise traces is a marketing label for records of how professionals work: the steps taken, judgment calls made and checks run. No standard definition exists.
What is a trajectory in AI?
A trajectory in AI is the record of steps an agent took while working on a task. A report shows the answer.
What is an RL environment?
An RL environment is a simulated workplace where an AI agent practices a task and gets scored on the result. Website clones cost near $20,000, Slack-grade clones near $300,000.
What is operational data?
Operational data in AI deals is the records a company produces while working, like chat, email, tickets, documents and CRM entries. It shows the trail from request to approval across tools.
What is data monetization?
Data monetization is using data to produce measurable economic value. MIT's study sorts it three ways: improving work with data (51% of returns), wrapping products with data (31%), and selling information (18%).
What is a data lab?
A data lab is micro1's term for a company that supplies training data to AI models, sitting between data holders and AI labs. A data lab supplies and transforms the data.
What is synthetic data?
Synthetic data is made by an algorithm that copies patterns from real data. The UK ICO says a model trained on the original generates it.
What is a data asset?
A data asset has two meanings. In accounting, IAS 38 defines it as an identifiable non-monetary asset without physical substance, but internally generated customer lists aren't recognized.
What is a rights holder in AI licensing?
A rights holder in AI licensing is the party with authority to license content or data to an AI company. Troveo describes a chain from creator to licensor to buyer.
What is data exhaust?
Data exhaust is data left as a by-product of online activity, behavior and transactions. Cookies, log files and clickstream records are examples.
What is a data broker?
A data broker collects personal information from multiple sources and sells it. The FTC describes these companies as operating largely behind the scenes.
What is a data corpus for AI?
A data corpus for AI is data treated as one set. In micro1's program it is a company's whole archive across its tools.
What is AI data governance?
AI data governance is the rules and records for which data goes into an AI system and how to prove its origin. EU AI Act Article 10 requires documenting data origin and preparation for high-risk systems.
